Dr. César Serrano Shares on the Importance of GIST Research
In this week’s campaign update, LRG Board President Gary Glasser shares the importance of continuing GIST research based on his own personal experience as a caregiver to his late father, Lawrence, who battled GIST, and as a dedicated board member.

We wanted to share a researcher’s perspective as well. GIST Specialist Dr. César Serrano of Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology in Barcelona, Spain also shared his thoughts as a GIST researcher. Dr. Serrano is currently Head of the Sarcoma Translational Research Group and is an expert in sarcomas at the Medical Oncology Service of Vall d’Hebron Hospital. He is main author or co-author of more than 50 publications in indexed international journals and book chapters related to sarcoma and has participated in the preclinical or clinical development of approved sarcoma therapies, such as ripretinib and avapritinib.
Dr. Serrano has received national and international recognition, such as two Young Investigator Awards, one from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and one from the Connective Tissue Oncology Society (CTOS), and a Career Development Award from the Sarcoma Alliance for Research Through Collaboration (SARC).
