GISTer’s daughter holds third annual ball for GIST

GIST has had a profound impact on my life even though I am not a patient myself. My father, Mark Becker, bravely fought his battle with GIST for 12 years before he died in 2009. Research and clinical trials are the two things that kept my dad alive long enough to see both of his daughters graduate high school and college, get married and have children.

Mark Becker Talks Living With GIST

Occasionally I have read that some survivor says that getting cancer was the best thing that ever happened to him. I think, “That person is insane.” We all have a story to tell. The story may help explain how we live our lives and why we are who we are. It may not; but I have not yet met a person who has lived with cancer and has not been changed by the experience. This story is about my experience living with cancer and participating in a recent clinical trial.
