A GIST Day of Learning (GDOL) was held on March 30, 2016 at The Center for Health and Healing, OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, Portland Oregon. GDOL’s are smaller group events held throughout the year in cities nationwide. These events focus on helping patients and caregivers learn more about this rare form of cancer, find support, and enhance their knowledge base to help them navigate their cancer journey. Participants also have the unique opportunity to meet with medical experts in the field and to network with their peers.  OSHA clinical staff shared their expertise with 48 participants at the event.  Mark Heinrich opened up the evening with a welcome and introduction. Dr. Michael Heinrich presented a GIST treatment update, followed by Dr. Christopher Corless who discussed GIST pathology and mutational testing. Tracy Walker, RN discussed finding and participating in GIST Clinical trials. Michelle Durborow, Sr. Program Director at The Life Raft group ended the evening with an update on LRG’s programs and services. A question and answer session followed.
