Advocacy for National Cancer Law in ChileOur Global Consultant, Piga Fernández, Executive Director of Fundación GIST Chile has asked us to help support the passage of the National Cancer Law in Chile.

In 2020, cancer will be the number one cause of death in Chile. That is why a law is necessary that will enable the country to move forward in prevention, early detection and equalitarian access to diagnostics and treatments. A law without discrimination is needed that will cover all types of cancer – an articulated and integrative law so that no one will face the loss of a dear one because of not having access to timely and quality healthcare.

Piga met recently with dignitaries at La Moneda, the equivalent of the White House in Chile.

She is pictured in the photo between two senators: Francisco Chahuan and Carolina Goic. Carolina is the key advocate for the National Cancer Law in Chile. Next to Carolina is Gonzalo Blumel, Minister of the General Secretary of the Presidency. The rest of the group are representatives of other cancer advocacy organizations. The meeting was designed to support Senator Goic in asking Minister Blumel to help push forward the Cancer Law.
